Finding a treasure amongst antiques at Europa on Alma

Bolton Clarke Europa on Alma residents dug out their valuable treasures, family heirlooms and collectables to be valued during their own antiques roadshow at the St Kilda community.
Thanks to the Abbeys Auction team, residents got the opportunity to hear more about the many trinkets brought along for the afternoon.
Resident Barry brought his prized Edison cylinder gramophone along for the occasion.
“The gramophone was bought by grandfather in North Melbourne and after he passed away in 1956 no one in the family was interested in keeping it,” Barry said.
“Even though I was only 10, it was given to me to look after and I’ve had it for 70 years now.
“I often use it and play it every Christmas eve – I find it very fascinating.
“They’re not uncommon so the value was about $700 to $900 which is what I expected, but what I do have is about 60 cylinders in perfect condition which I learnt is unusual.”
Various pieces of silver and glass wear, statues and jewellery boxes were also discussed during the session.
