Queensland-first recycling partnership sees retirement village residents reap rewards

In the approach to Global Recycling Day this month Bolton Clarke is leading the sustainability charge, working with residents to launch a state-first retirement village partnership with Containers for Change.

Recycling champions across each of the organisation’s 23 Queensland villages will receive dedicated recycling bins which will be emptied regularly by a Containers for Change operator, turning their bottles into cash for use in local projects chosen by the village community.

Bolton Clarke Director of Operations for North Queensland Jon says the inspiring project will span as far north as Townsville, down to the Gold Coast and out to Longreach. 

“We’re thrilled to launch our Queensland-wide partnership with Containers for Change and engage our retirement villages to transform waste into impact,” Jon said.

“Drink containers are one of the most common forms of litter and by returning them through this project, our residents are not only diverting waste from landfill but they’re also raising funds for social impact projects that benefit their wider community.

“It’s inspiring to see our residents lead the way to prove that small actions can create powerful change.”

Bolton Clarke Moreton Shores resident John is one of the many residents supporting the project and says the residents are excited to now have their dedicated bins.

“We are excited to get behind this project as a village because all the money that gets collected goes back into our village that we can put towards meals, social events and so on.

“The bins will be placed around the villages where the normal bins already are to make it easier for residents to drop their bottles or cans off.

“Our nominated resident Darrel has kindly volunteered his time to keep an eye on when bins get full to be emptied.”

As the villages start to receive their bins, some have been eagerly awaiting the launch including Bolton Clarke’s Fernhill village in Caboolture, where 1139 containers have been collected in the past month.
